The EPSRC & BBSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Synthetic Biology was supported by £4.8M of funding from UKRI as well as the partner institutions and industry. The programme started in 2014 and trained five cohorts of students from different backgrounds. Seventy nine students have received training and more than 25 of those have completed their studies to date (Aug 2020). The last cohort of students is expected to finish their doctorates in 2022.
The following active programmes may be of interest to those seeking admission in 2024 and beyond:
  • DPhil in Engineering Biology (Training Programme) for those interested in Engineering Biology: applying engineering principles to biology, exploiting our synthetic biology knowledge to drive the bioeconomy.
  • Interdisciplinary Bioscience DTP for those with a strong biological background interested in working on predominantly wet laboratory projects
