Synthetic Biology Centre for Doctoral Training

Please note: Although there is a final application deadline of noon on March 13th 2015 you should be aware that following the November and January gathered fields we have made funded and unfunded offers to as many existing applicants as we can for entry in October 2015. As such, we are unlikely to have further funded or unfunded places in the Synthetic Biology CDT programme unless we have withdrawals from those already holding offers.

The EPSRC & BBSRC Synthetic Biology Centre for Doctoral Training (SynBioCDT) is a 4-year doctoral programme that offers training in the new field of Synthetic Biology, the “Engineering of Biology”. This centre is a collaboration between the Universities of Oxford, Bristol and Warwick.

We encourage applications from students with a wide range of academic backgrounds, including Engineering, Biology, Biochemistry, Physics, Plant Sciences, Chemistry, Statistics, Mathematics and Computing.

Applications can be made through any of the three collaborating institutions, where they will be admitted for graduate study. All students will spend most of their first year in Oxford and will then rejoin their home institution to complete their doctorate.

Please explore the menu at the top of this page to find more information about the programme and the research training provided, as well as funding available and instructions on how to apply.
